Gradall Forklift Parts - Through the period when WWII created a shortage of laborers, the famous Gradall excavator was established in the 1940s as the idea of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Santa Clara construction company called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the existing laborers so as to perform the delicate tasks of grading and finishing on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to build a machine which would save their business by making the slope grading job easier, more efficient and less manual.
Their initial design model was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform which was affixed atop a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward which allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Soon improving the initial design, the brothers built a triangular boom so as to add more strength. Furthermore, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the equipment to be outfitted with either a blade or a bucket attachment.
Gradall launched in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their equipment ever since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to deliver comparable power and high productivity to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series ended the original Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These conventional systems effectively handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity jobs.
Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to dig and lift materials. With this series, the models were produced with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics which showed distinct improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was likewise developed together with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators utilize an operator to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power meant for the task at hand. This makes the operator's overall task easier and also saves fuel simultaneously.
As soon as the new XL Series hydraulics became available in the market, Gradall was thrust into the very competitive industrial machine market which are designed to deal with demolition, pavement removal, excavating and other industrial jobs. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
